Hey – I like you thought you could put the Toyotas in neutral and fix the problem, but you can’t. I explained it in a post just above yours on the news story today. Basically, modern trannies are electrically controlled, and they won’t let you change gears if the engine is spinning above a certain speed. Thought I would let you know. Hope you take this as informative, and not picking – which it is not meant to be.

I just noticed your post in the fuel economy forum. Just because they have them overseas and not here doesn't mean they can't do them here! They could easily have vehicles here in this country getting over 50, 70 and even 100 mpg or more! The Ford Fiesta getting 60+ mpg is nice, and not bad, but even that could be improved upon further! I say 7 0 to 80+ mpg would be nice! Everything could be bumped up by 10 to 20% pretty easily!
