CERAWEEK - Gasoline will dominate for a long while, panelist

Houston Chronicle -- With no technology offering the perfect solution, automakers are pursuing a multipronged strategy to reduce greenhouse gases by improving fuel efficiency and developing cars that run longer and better from an array of energy options.

But most motorists still can expect regular trips to the gas pump for quite a while, industry representatives said Wednesday at the IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates CERAWeek energy conference.

“The future has to be a very diverse portfolio of answers,” said Britta Gross, who works on energy systems and infrastructure with General Motors Co., part of a panel that discussed the future of transportation.

If they don't take the broad approach, panelists said, automakers risk being caught flat-footed when market and consumer trends abruptly change,

The scam continues. None of the alternatives is as efficient (or as plentiful) as gasoline and none will be any time in the forseeable future. Besides, CO2 isn't a "greenhouse" gas, except that it's an absolute necessity of life for plants - which are an absolute necessity of life for every other living creature.

I don't see any abrubt change, nothing in the automotive field changes that fast.

Until someone figures out how to power things with minute amounts of fusionable material, energy sources like gasoline will be around for a very long time.

This is very obvious. No replacement for gasoline has popped up, and building a new infrastructure alone would take years, maybe decades.

The Public may still go to the gas stations, but now if you own a Diesel or Hybrid car, you go fewer times.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could find a safe, easily prduced, affordable alternative energy source that would work in vehicles and power generating plants as well.
