Iraq moves to diversity oil export options from Hormuz

Alarabiya News -- Iraq moved on Sunday to diversify its oil export routes to reduce the impact of a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran on Baghdad’s oil-dependent income, as well as the world economy.

The plans, recommended by parliament’s energy and economics committees, include efforts to ramp up exports along a pipeline to Turkey, increase the amount of oil transported by road, and “urgently” fix disused transport pipelines, according to a statement from government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh.

He said Iraq’s cabinet on Sunday adopted the recommendations which also included working to reopen the Banias-Tripoli pipeline that runs from Syria to Lebanon but has been closed since 1990, and, if thawing Iraq-Saudi relations continue to improve, a disused pipeline through Saudi Arabia as well.

Hmmmm, doesn't THIS play into the price of oil? If Iran can push prices HIGHER, WHY doesn't this push it LOWER?

They are an independent country and have the right to market their oil as they want. We need to develop our vast oil deposits and the price of gas at the pumps would go down while jobs would go up. Let's get off OPEC.

As Americans we don't give a crap if obama was not the hold up stalling permit's stopping the pipe line all the things this guy has done remembers he has said he wants gas at $5-6 a gal obama wants green technology no mater what it costs the American tax payer he wants it his way he thinks hes king well hope he gets a job at burger kink in November we need this clown out

We can't figure this out: if Iraq wants to diversify it's oil export routes to reduce the impact of a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, why not just leave the Strait open?

Sure now that 'Bama wants to shrink the military let's start a war with Iran. China will side with Iran and we won't have a refinery to process crude. I just can't wait to start waiting in line for gas again!!!!

If they reopen pipelines to the west (Mediteranian), it makes it easier to ship their oil to Europe and the U.S.
