With gas prices rising, automakers have healthy supplies of fuel-efficient cars

Cleveland Plain Dealer -- CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If you want a hybrid or any car that gets 40 miles a gallon or more, head to any dealership in town. Odds are, you'll have plenty of choices.

Even with gas prices staying close to $4 a gallon and sales of small cars on the rise, automakers have lots of fuel sippers. At Toyota, for example, Prius hybrids sit on dealership lots for about 35 days before selling.

Four years ago, when gasoline hit $4 per gallon the first time, many dealerships had long waiting lists for the popular Toyota. The average Prius sat on lots for only six days before selling, according to data from consumer research site Edmunds.com.

"Really, four years ago, [fuel economy] wasn't a focus," Edmunds.com analysts Ivan Drury said. "We were still on a trend where people wanted SUVs and large vehicles.

Well, good for them! With the high price of purchasing a new EV or Inbred, I will drive my current vehicle into the ground before buying anything new, used, EV, Inbred, very high MPG, concept or anything else. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

Why don't they simply bring some of them in to the US? A $15k Focus will beat out a $25K Prius in cost room, and features, and make it the MOST fuel efficient vehicle available, period! These are modern diesels without all the noise and dirty exhaust.

Giving the choice, I not sure we would have so many fuel efficient cars to choose from.

A person won't have immediate savings because, buying a new vehicle for $20,000 affects their expenditures within the immediate future. By the time they notice the savings, years later, there will be new advances in automobile technology and more fuel efficient vehicles.
